Art Every Day Month 2018 (AEDM2018) and NaNoWriMo 2018 – Day 3

Art Every Day Month 2018 (AEDM2018)

Today’s art is the beginning beading of the left front epaulet on the denim duster project.  Tiny beads, old eyesight, poor lighting (I really have to fix that!), and the distraction of watching The Black Panther movie and texting about it with my grandson made for slow work (and there are lots of tiny beads in my couch now).

And I remind myself that this isn’t a sprint.  Handwork is for meditation and beauty not getting to the end (like a cathedral, that can take a long long time).  It is the process not the product that I am after here.

NaNoWriMo

2,055 words for a total of 13,165.  The story is taking off in odd directions because I need words.  Again, the point is process.  At the end of the month I should have all I need to edit and polish something I like, or a really good beginning to a series of novels.

  • Hi Rita – yes: either meditative or crazy making – nothing in between :/ So I choose meditative because I really want to do it and there isn’t a deadline (THAT would definitely be crazy making)

  • I’ve never done that kind of beadwork and can’t imagine trying now with my wonky eye. Looks amazing so far. Would take a lot of patience and I can see how it would be almost meditative. 🙂

  • Thanks, Leah!

Elizabeth – this is a well worn duster, not new. The material is actually soft and not at all hard to work with. I”m mostly sewing without a thimble. Tho I think I need to track one down.

  • l like how you are taking it slowly and enjoying the process. This is going to be incredible when it’s completed. I admire how you are using denim, which is a very difficult fabric to work with by hand.

  • Love the way the details look on the denim!

  • LOve it!
