Totem crone.full   Totem:  Crone, about 30" tall (packed for show and I didn't measure), by Tammy Vitale.

I have a 2 day show this weekend (Unique Boutique) - have to be there to load in at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning and have the whole 10 x 10 thing up at 10 a.m. by myself.  Not my favorite part of having a show!  The last two years we've been able to get in the evening before, which is always great because I always forget something.  so I have to be extra organized this year and I have to work today.  so I've been picking away at making lists and checking them twice and then getting it all together this whole week.  Which required that any and all new work be finished by this past Monday.  Which required starting that cycle two weeks earlier.

So despite wanting to get new drawings everyday for Art Every Day Month, I'll just offer this new piece.

The talking stick that is attached to this totem says on its side:  Mina pauses, doesn't yield and was designed as I approached my own cronehood.  The symbols on the front of the talking stick stand for caring, connection, courage, something that starts with a "c" and means transformation which refuses to come into my brain at the moment, and co-existance.  I am dashing this off before I dash out the door to work and then dash home to try to prepost new work (which I must first make) for this weekend.

I can do all this because I watched Barack Obama steadily work through the past two years to his goal.  Based on hope.  Hey, after that, this little bit of stuff is nothing!

So here are some detail photos of today's artwork.

thought for the day: Creativity is about overcoming fears by entering into them and spiraling out of them.  It takes courage to create.  What are some of the fears that the creative person enters into and does not repress or run from?  … the creative person can expect to feel guilt at the sacrifice of living for creating and at the break the artist makes with the past, a past that fed and nourished him or her and which is loved all the same.  Creative guilt-feelings then are part of the price one pays for creating and out not to scare us off from being creators.  They are what most limit creativity in our time, according to [Otto] Rank.    Matthew Fox, A Spirituality Named Compassion:  Uniting Mystical Awareness with Social JusticeTotem crone.top detail

  • Love all the textures.
    This quote too!

  • Hope the show is going well. I think I may post a picture of my prayer/talking stick. It is on my altar except when I am meditating with it in my hands.

  • This is just beautiful and I love the meaning that you included with it. Good luck on the show!

  • tammy, this is beautiful and full of intense and wonderful meaning! I love it………..it sounds as if the show is very stressful to prepare for and to do it alone would be very difficult as I am sure some of your pieces are very heavy……hoping there is someone there to help you with the heavy ones! 🙂

many blessings to you…..and good luck too!
