I went away for 10 days, missed the snow event here in Southern Maryland, experienced flurries on the Atlantic Coast of Georgia, Tybee Island to be more specific.

My plan was to write blogs while there – all that gorgeous space to just be!  Tutored by the amazing Patti Digh.

You know the saying:  If you want to hear the Goddess laugh, make plans?

Patti Digh wound up in the hospital with a heart attack.

My blog refused to work.

And the week was one of the most amazing of my life.  In laughter there is always grace.

The wonderful Jeanne D’Orleans stepped in to facilitate in Patti’s place, and while I am sure it was different (even though Jeanne used Patti’s notes), it was also still magical, not less magical because no expectation was met, and it did not matter.

Mary Anne Radmacher skyped in for a morning workshop as did Laura Hendrie, author of Remember Me, who shared the wonderful prompt of:  write about a closet – yours or someone else’s.

I found my way back to writing from my heart and soul, or at least began the journey there.  And decided to begin doing morning pages again.  Had a grand time on the beach, and brought home enough energy to carry me forward for a good long time.  I got clear on my priorities if not so clear on how I’m going to keep them up in front of my life (baby steps – always baby steps!), and I greatly trust that will be revealed to me if I just keep on heading out in the direction I think I want to go and then release (just. like. making.art)(why am I surprised?)(am I surprised?).

So here are a few of my treasures for your enjoyment:

Danger of Drowning

Swift current of thought
beyond edge black water swirls.
I find I can swim.

From the wild water I rise
hair a halo of seaweed
moon shell face
nipples the pointed tops of welks
belly the vast shore at ebb tide
sheltering the 10,000 unnamed things

  • I really love this post. Your writings and spirit doll are wonderful!

  • Sorry about Patti Digh having a heart attack! But the whole experience sounds like it was magical, regardless. 🙂

  • Such a beautiful post. We’ve “talked” about this experience. Incredibly inspiring, through you, to those who did not attend. That’s what a great storyteller you are.

And that last piece….still makes my chest wake and roll…

    Keep going.
