I just got "tagged" by Bizolutionsplus: Featuring Solutions to Grow Your Business.  This is what I get for referencing this blog several days ago on marketing.  I’m not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing but here’s the way it works:  write 5 things no one knows about you and then tag 5 other people.

Now anyone who knows me knows that I keep no secrets.  I’m an Aries kind of gal and what you see is what you get (believe it or not).  However, some of you haven’t known me as long as others so I will scrounge back into my young years and really shock the pants off you.

1.  I was married at 19, divorced at 26, had a baby with the ex, remarried at 28, had another baby and finally divorced at 34 after spending half my life with him – the break?  a broken eye and bruised ribs.  I finally got the message, got myself together and got out.

2.  Between 22 and 24 I made my living as one of the top paid go-go dancers in the DC area, dancing mostly in Springfield and Alexandria Va (The Dolphin Restaurant, the 13/20 club and The Idle House Inn with several fill ins in downtown DC and a stint as a cocktail waitress at the Fabulour Follies off of Wisconsin Avenue).

3.  Above-mentioned ex rode with the Pagans outlaw motorcycle gang and I had a property jacket.  It was a definite education of a different kind.

4.  My undergraduate is in Business Administration.  When I started college at 26, I studied art.  The above-mentioned ex noted that I would never make money that way (mind you he hardly worked so it was important that I did) and so I split off into Business….it tok me 13 years to finish because I fought it all the way.  I graduated at 39.  But back when I quit, I promised my self that when I was (the unbelievable age of) 55 I could be an artists.

5.  With husband # 2 (who is wonderful and who the Universe gave me to way overcompensate for husband #1) I founded a live sound reinforcement business that made him, as sound engineer, a pretty big fish in the DC punk scene and led to his current position as house sound guy at the 9:30 club. Only the old timers know the part I played there.  It’s like a club in its own right.

Tag, you’re it:  1.  Diane, Hidden Hollow; 2. Leah, Creative Every Day; 3. Jana, Jana’s Journeys; 4.  Karen, Art in the Garage; 5.  Tinker, Tinker Art

  • To answer Jana's question about totems so everyone can see. I made a bunch of test tiles for a 11' x 7.5'public art piece. when I was done, I had all these cool tiles in different colors and just decided one day to blue them on a piece of board and call it a totem. For a goof. Put the one I made in a show. Smash hit. Who knew? Sometimes the Muses have a great sense of humor. And now NOTHING gets thrown away. I have been known to go out into the garden and retrieve garden pieces to make totems. They're fun. They're fast. And they're simple and complex all at the same time. That's how I decided to make totems.

  • I did it! Thanks for the tag!!!!

I'm glad you got out of that relationship, but sorry you had to go through so much first. Abuse sucks. :o(

How did you decide to make totems? I like this one, because once it's sold, the buyer can add any kind of dried flower that they want… basically they can "personalize" the art to reflect their personality as well as yours! SWEET!
