2d_soul_cards_teacher Soul Card:  Teacher, collage by Tammy Vitale

There is actually a process for soul cards based on the book Soul Collage by Seena Frost; however, as with everything else, I adopted what I wanted from the process and discarded the rest.  I took the piece where you name all the parts of you and do a collage for each.  This really appealled to me and may keep me going for the rest of my life (lots of "me"s inside there when you scrounge around a bit).  I also like, a lot, the part where you write "I am…." for each card.  If you free write it, amazing things come up.  I never know where I’m going when I start and whatever energy it is that swells up always knows when to end.  This particular card, Teacher, doesn’t have an "I am" yet, so I put it up top (you will note I am still having problems with glare but that is because I have not followed the excellent suggestion to photograph with a tripod, which I have, but which I have to pull down out of my closet and this is my lazy week).

Here are 2 more – I was on a tear for a while and have a good bunch but want to sit down and do more with the lovely goodies sent to me by Karen over at Art-in-the-garage out of the generosity of her heart.  I’m also not creating much of anything right now – reading christmas books – so these will also stand in for "new" work.

2d_soul_cards_changing_woman Changing Woman:  I am the one who shifts shape, the one whose power is invisibility in plain sight.  I am the one whose name is never spoken, the one whose name is written in sacred script.

I write the "I am" after I assemble the picture and the picture creates the energy from which the "I am" emerges.  This is, of course, the same process of clay or painting, only this seems faster (once the picture is down, and I have to admit that the pictures seem to come together really fast for me).  It’s very gratifying and also very portable.  I did many of these while sitting for a gallery which I no longer belong to, but which allowed me a lot of down time to play (i.e., we weren’t very busy).

Speaking of galleries, I just received a rejection from GreenLeaf in Duck, North Carolina.  Very Disappointing.  Husband says "buck up….you wouldn’t want your work sitting somewhere it wouldn’t sell anyways."  Well, no, I wouldn’t.  But I would have sold there.  So, onward.  There’s another really nice gallery in Manteo, NC, The Silver Bonsai, that I visited but haven’t approached yet.  I’ll try there.

thought for the day:  The nucleus accounts for almost all the atom’s solidity, yet occupies only one-million-millionth of its total volume; the rest is empty space.  What is the empty space?  Physicists are now calling it a field of intelligence.

This atomic structure is not mass, but energy.  For example, the cells in the body vibrate at a million times per seconds; atoms vibrate at a quadrillion times per second.  This gives our bodies and the world around us the appearance of being solid….Since everything in existence is energy, and interrelated, every aspect of the mind/body system is affected by the energy around us.  Bobbie R. • I love these cards especially Changing Woman 🙂 I can't wait to see more of your cards! WOO HOO! (caps required 😉

  • Jana – scanning is a great idea; however, forwhatever reason my brother scanner and my HP computer do not talk to each other without a great deal of machinations; consequently I don't use it. Husband has declared one last go at it before I go buy a HP scanner (which *should* work with HP computer. Right? Thanks for the thought though!

  • WOW I LOVE the Creator one!!!! Soul cards sound fun, I may have to try them sometime.

About the glare, have you tried scanning them with your scanner instead of taking pics? That just might work, and on mine the colors come back a lot more true as well.

  • this sounds like a wonderful book. i am going to check it out!

  • Interesting about soul cards! Never heard of that before. Hooray to another artist! The therapy in making art is in the process for me. I love the fact that I never know how it's going to turn out. Really, the outcome is just a detail.

Thanks for your comment on pigletpaper.com Yes, it is Sportsters that we ride. We figure they are not big enough to be hogs, so we call them piglets.
