This weekI won a drawing!  I am soon to receive a copy of "Goddess in the Groove – Musings from the Goddess Within" from (and by) Heike Boehnke-Sharp.  Don't you just love blogs?!

thought for the day:  A story can be told and retold and still affect others.  A story can become richer and more textured over time.  It can also reveal tidbits that weren't there at the first telling…Stories are written.  Facts are merely recorded.  Stories keep the delicious details alive, give flavor to the facts.  SARK, Juicy Pens Thirsty Paper

The universe is made up of stories, not atoms.  Muriel Rukeyser (quoted by SARK)

Ok, this is backwards – the "thought" first and then me writing something, but I picked up this book and opened it to Rukeyser's quote (she also wrote:  What would happen if one woman told her story?  The world would crack open!) and it made me think of my master's work (Story and Social Change) and about the stories each of us tell ourselves and others, and how recently my story of myself and to myself hasn't been as open and trusting as I would like it to be.  Yesterday, I had a conversation with Son, who is a recovering addict/alcoholic.  He told me that he had been in a meeting the day before and had talked about going into a bar the night before that (no drinking…just socializing – said it was amazing how good his pool playing got after everyone else had been drinking and he hadn't).  He knew the old timers were going to wag their fingers and he steeled himself.  And sometime during the process of listening to them he realized this: he wasn't staying sober for them or because he knew he would have to come to meeting and talk about what he'd been doing,  he wasn't even staying sober for himself, he was staying sober for this amazing connection he has found with (fill in the blank:  his higher self, the Universe, god) and he doesn't want to lose that.  And his sharing that story with me opened something inside that has been rather tightly squeezed shut since oh, about February (after the Philadelphia Buyer's Market).  I haven't been writing my pages, I haven't been writing much here, I haven't been creating in clay…I have been creating in crayon…I think all that's going on in the world has scared my inner child back into her treehouse (I'll show you the picture some day if I can find it – it's in a journal somewhere).  This week I've done a kiln load of work…and loved it.  I've gotten this part-time job, starting next week, for 3 days a week, working outside at a roadside stand.  Things happen for a reason.  I can't wait to see what happens next!

  • The world is made up of stories – oh, I love that!
And the idea of cracking open, and letting the stories spill out…and that, that has happened for you again…What a wonderful story for your son to share – and for you to share with us…I've been holding things too tightly myself…thank you for this~xo

  • Tammy, I'm happy for (and with) you and your son!! And I know this feeling of getting "disconnected", neglecting the inner child, jumping on a train which leads only to frustration and superficial things, I'm glad that we get the occasions of getting connected again.
Part time jobs are those things we sometimes yell at (when we are in the middle of something and have to go there:) but then they get us connected with other people, and keep our feet grounded and give us lots of inspiration too, if we give ourself the freedom to look for it…
    (well not always, but often:)
    a hug from sunny Paris

  • Hello Goddess!
    🙂
I love the purple woman…her color, her hair…

Then I saw the Women Friends, and love them too. I am so feeling the power friendships right now, especially those that I would not have expected.

I am happy you won the drawing :).

  • Very glad you are getting your 'Mojo' back, and your sweet, lovely little girl feels it may be safe to wander around outside the tree house for a while 🙂

Also VERY glad to hear Son's story, how my heart smiles, and sings and feels for you both … how Son helps heal Mother and vice-versa.

    MEGA Hugs. Will email soon.
Love the bluebird lady and the wire hair. Groovy!

  • Wonderful to see your latest works, Tammy! The women friends is the essence of sisterhood…And must say the leaft piece is resonating especially now…must be the season! ;o) Inspiring quotes too…I enjoy the writings of M. Rukeyser. Best wishes to your Son as he recovers and discovers himself a-new! Happy Days ((HUGS))

  • Tammy, the three pieces are awsome, I just love the one with Picasso's great quote, and the colours of all three, and the friendship of the waterfairies, and the woman with the coloured hair and the bluebirds:)

  • Love your tile with the leaf design Tammy.

Your son is a very smart & lucky man to have discovered this for himself. All power to him 🙂

We all find ourselves in a hiatus at some point & often it takes someone else to snap us out of it. Fantastic that you are back creating/working again. Some of your son's power must have rubbed off on you!

  • First, I have to say that the piece Women Friends is perfect in every way, I love it, I really do! Interesting that you said things happen for a reason, seem to be hearing that a lot lately. And I wonder why we bounce around, like you not working in clay lately and me not having done much with paint & paper in way too long, but this past week have been working like crazy with that medium again & loving it.
As to the inner child, the world can be a scary place, and when we fear for our own, like our kids, it's enough to make any child go into hiding. Glad to know that son is doing just fine, and that you're working in clay again. And I can't wait to see what happens next too!
