Piles of masks and torsos in preparation for ArtOMatic 08.
Here’s most of what I’m taking, along with some totems and a few new pieces that don’t have a line name. I’m at the point where I have all the work, but a lot of it is new so I’m wiring and gluing and naming and photographing and measuring and doing all the little stuff that takes a ton of time. But I’m ahead of the game. I set aside Thursday for packing and I think I can safely say I’m half way packed. The lights, hammer and nails, almost all of the masks and some other miscellaneous stuff is ready to go. So I thought I’d check in and show you some of the new work. I had some great websites to share; alas we had a power outage last night and the computer turned off and deleted them all so all I have to share today is my own work. These will all be listed with name, size and price on my Sacred website eventually, but for today you just get the pictures. Oh! you can see the finished torso from Heather’s casting on Body Politics. She turned out wonderfully and named herself to boot: Daughter of Willendorf (after the Venus of Willendorf which she so reminds me of). Am glad Heather took a photo and posted because I did not get a picture of her before I sent her home with Heather to get ready for ArtOMatic/Body Politics.
thought for the day: One of the reasons artists need to talk to and hear from other artists is that the press is not a trustworthy mechanism for relaying information about the creative life. In the press, artists are either anguished or heroic, they are not what they must be – adroit, like spiritual samurai – to remain balanced amid turbulent doubts….For an artist, doubt is both part of the territory and an every present danger…Art is a spiritual practice. Doubt is normal. We need faith to survive it and we also need charity. When doubt attacks. we must be vigilantly self-loving…The dark night of the soul comes to all artists. when it comes to you, know that it is simply a tricky part of the trail and that you will see better in the morning. agreed; the new work is simply lovely. i believe they will be snatched up quite quickly and you will return empty handed and back to work on monday. i was noticing your car packing tips; i would think that making sure these babies don't bust while traveling would be quite the adventure in itself; small wonder that you have to begin days in advance.
I went to see the Daughter of Willendorf! It is such a beautiful Venus!:)
love

(and the skinny jeans project a very exciting one:)
Your photo's show just how creative you are being right now! Love this torso and masks, they will do well at your show. Enjoyed your thought for the day – it is true, artists need other artists for support.
WOW! One of these days I'm gonna find a way to come and help you set up for a show, just because I think it would be so amazing to watch your space go from the blank concrete and plywood that it is now, into the amazing shop that you've showed us pics of!
These are wonderful. I love the colors you used on the torso, she's beautiful. Sounds like you are really going to enjoy Artomatic – and Artomatic is going to enjoy YOU!!!
Tammy, all your new art is great! I particularly love the torso, I'm in love with those colours. And I want again to your sacred site, which is lovely to look at too! Have a great preparation and trip and show,
Andrea
