Today’s offering for Art Every Day Month (day 25!) is an in process shot of the headpiece (which you first saw here) for Beautiful Swimmer (which you saw here and here).
In the studio the clay pieces are still drying (waaaaaaaaaaay too slowly even with the dehumidifier. Or maybe that’s just me being impatient).
I worked on this yesterday morning after food prep and before Daughter and family arrived. I can see where it’s going and now it’s just a matter of getting it there.
Hope you and yours had a wonderful day yesterday, be it Thanksgiving in the U.S. or Thursday elsewhere. Every day is a day for gratitude!
Here’s a share of me and Granddaughter exploring one of my outdoor Gaia pieces. She’s had several name, including Elemental because she has symbols for earth, air, fire and water incised on her body. She’s been wired to a tree behind the Garden Goddess but fell down sometime after the hurricane – the wire sheered thru (and it had plastic on the outside!). Daughter suggested setting her up on a pole – which makes sense because she is hollow. Husband was taken aback that he didn’t think of that first. So she goes on the todo list. In the meantime, she is laying on the ground, sleeping according to Granddaughter.
I have made a few other things but they are holiday presents and so can’t be shared! I have some lovely empty space on the calendar stretching out in front of me for holiday preparation, and for this I am grateful. It gives me time to reflect on the past year and the coming year. Time to start thinking about a word or phrase for my guiding star.
Do you have a ritual for endings and beginnings? If yes, I’d love to hear! Please share in the comments below!
Wylde Women’s Wisdom
The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country. Abraham Lincoln (on the establishment of Thanksgiving during the Civil War, as reported in the Huffington Post)

Beautiful headdress…and granddaughter! 😉 I’m not sure I like the sound of a head on a pole, but I’m sure you’d make it not look sacrificial–LOL!
I gather up all my crystals and do-dads on New Year’s Eve (at least they get cleaned, dusted, and reenergized once a year) and have my own little ceremony to say goodbye to the past year and hello to the new. Usually do a burning bowl and read some angel cards. I look forward to it. Oh, and I write up a “goal” list before that for the coming year (which is more like a long project to-do reference list that I never expect to get half done–LOL!).
I hope you have a great 2012!! 🙂
The headpiece is looking so beautiful, Tammy! I also enjoyed the story about your Elemental Goddess…glad to hear an easy solution has been found to resurrect her. How sweet that your granddaughter stated she was sleeping. 🙂
Have a lovely weekend,
Serena
Gorgeous! So luminous and elegant.
Sweet family picture. I love your garden.
I think I might have found my word for 2012. I´ll devote January summer holidays to the Grand Plan.
the headpiece is going to be stunning… and you must be such a fun and exciting Grandma to have… my Gran played such a huge role in my life and we spent so many incredible hours together cooking and chatting and she stays with me as a dominant influence even today… your photo bought all that flooding back… so thanks xx
The headpiece is amazing so far…can’t wait to see it completed! At our cabin in West Virginia I tuck fairies and other woodland folk in the forest. I can’t wait to visit with them in a few weeks! The elements do take their toll though so I”m sure that i will have a similiar to do list :>
I am SO looking forward to seeing the pieces of your beautiful swimmer put together in a glorious whole!
That’s a touching and humorous story about resurrecting the sleeping goddess.
