A figurine older than the Venus of Willendorf has been found in Germany!  read the LA Times story here.

I wish I had lovely pictures to share but alas I have taken none.  The last go round of glass I broke the bodies of 2 seahorses, and dropped one of them on a dragon.  Devastation!

Oh well.

The good news is I am coming down the homestretch on my beadwork necklace (see the beginning here).  I would be remiss if I didn't note that I am coming down the homestetch due to the generosity and time of uber beadworker Liz Printz who had me in to her home, retaught me how to do the edging and some (lots of edgings) and GAVE me the backing suede – refusing any thought of payment.  Maybe a trade later on for some kiln time.  I have been greatly blessed with awesome people in my life!  Liz reiterated about beadworking (and hey, let's face it, art is life!):  There are no rules!  Liberating!  Scarey!  but very very liberating!  So-what would you do if you knew you could not fail!!?

So this is short and sweet to let you know I'm thinking of all of you and will soon have lovely photos from ArtOMatic (and hopefully some interviews) to share.  Meanwhile, you can read about ArtOMatic here from Daily Campello art News.

Lenny had kind things to say about the Body Politics installation at last year's ArtOMatic.  I'd show you a picture of his remarks but I can't find them.

Today I am being ok with being unorganized.

thought for the day:  If I tell you there are no rules, would you be willing to play the game?

  • Your thought for the day made me think immediately of the discussions that happened in the "Calvin and Hobbes" cartoon whenever they were playing "Calvinball". Rules are artificial reality constructs anyway, people who think they are fixed are doomed to frustration and disappointment. Of course, we play the game every day, and the rules are simple. Gravity is the law you can't break, and the speed of light is an apparently immutable and unbreakable speed limit (except in science fiction). I've been reading the Tao te Ching lately, and I guess that really the name of the game is not to play the game, but to let the game play you.

Sorry you had a disaster. I'm okay with being disorganized every day. In my experience, trying to be organized only results in frustration when the Powers of the Universe decide to screw with your plans. It's better to have a loosely based idea of what you might like to accomplish in any given day and then go to work and see what happens by the end of it.

  • congrats with coming to the end of a long labor of love.
Answer to your thought for the day: no.
(my blog is still down; boo hoo.)
