Hand-built clay sculpture, War!, by Tammy Vitale of Tam’s Originals
Upon viewing War!, one person said: "There aren’t any female centaurs!" I said, "When was the last time you saw a male centaur?"
Later I discovered that Rodin has a female centaur. And of course, anyone who has ever watched Disney’s Fantasia knows there are female centaurs too.
Goes to show you how what you read or what you think you know can influence what you believe. No female centaurs indeed (how else would male centaurs get here? Which begs a lot of other questions about gods, but that will take me back off into the gender thing, and my books are in the process of being packed to open up the house for sale, so I don’t have access to a lot of my printed material for the foreseeable future. Never fear, books multiply around here like rabbits. I’m sure others will move in quickly to take their place).
I am finding it hard to keep up with both blogs right now. You will find a Linda update and a reason for all this – mostly just overwhelm – at myspace. (This link appears not to want to work. Try: http://blog.myspace.com/TamsOriginals if it doesn’t work for you either). Am not much keeping up with my art, either. And it isn’t so much that I don’t know what’s next – there are plenty of things knocking at the door to come on in. It’s more because I can’t stay focused on it enough to get the door open, never mind be a conduit.
Good news on the art front. Joie de Vivre Gallery in Cambridge, with whom I affiliated earlier this year, has been nominated to receive an award in the the category of Top Retailer by NICHE magazine. Winners will be announced during the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. According to owner’s Joy Staniforth’s press release, more than 18,000 professional fine craft artists throughout the US and Canada nominated nearly 700 galleries, retail stores, arts nonprofits, museums and guilds for the inaugural Top Retailer Awards.
Congratulations Joy! And yea! me! for being a part of her success.
Thought for the day: When things start to come unglued, instead of getting crazy about glueing them back together, collect what pieces are available, along with any new pieces that present themselves, and wait. Perhaps it is time for things to be put together differently.
