Raw, journal collage by Tammy Vitale
I'd like to thank the MMCA Marketplace for doing a wonderful interview of me, posted today.
MMCA explains itself like this:
We have no headquarters, which is good for the heating/cooling bill. We have no boss, no timekeeper, and no employee handbook. Then again, we have no fixed income . What we do have is group purchasing power in a world market. We are diverse. You will find not only full-time professional artists among us, but an arts gallery owner, a stay-at-home-mom, several savvy business women and more. Most of them would not know any of the others if they met in passing because most have never met face-to-face. Yet, many of the members talk daily about issues affecting their business and given that the art world relies on disposable income; there is a lot to discuss these days. A passion for adventure, exploration and art unifies the artists involved in the MMCA Marketplace, a virtual store that went up as the Dow was crashing down. MMCA Marketplace is a retail fine arts and craft shop. Its member artists make art cards, mixed media collages, floor cloths, jewelry, sculpture, paintings on paper and canvas, photographs and much more.
They are (regularly) showing some excellent work on their site – click on over and enjoy!
thought for the day: A good relationship isn't always crystals and rainbows. It's a birth process, often painful, often messy…A "spiritual relationship" isn't necessarily one in which two people [or one person in relationship to her art] are smiling all the time….Real [relationship] work can only occur in the presence of rigorous honesty. I have got to find time to browse more here…you mentioned Course in Miracles and my ears perked up… I have studied that off and on for gosh, twenty years. In fact, right now i am rereading Brett Haskell The Other Voice.
I would find lots in common I'm sure going through your older posts. And your art is divine for sure.
ps… that link on "interview" is a dead link; the first one takes you there though.
Congratulations on the interview; going to rush over and read it right now…
Fantastic interview, Tammy. I think your authentic self really came through!
Collage as meditation – I like it! 🙂
To answer all of Heather's questions: It's a journal/sketchbook where, when there's too much in my head, I present myself and do something I don't normally do, collage, just to get my head to be quiet long enough for me to figure out what wants to be born, or if not that, at least long enough to take a rest from "the voices." I've never thought about selling or giving any of the work like the collages because I think they're pretty primitive compared to the work I see around the web. I do crayon pictues in this journal, also. Them I make prints of to sell.
Cool article! Sending you a personal note about it.
Awesome! Tell us more about your journal collage too? Is it a journal you want to write dreams in? Or sell? Or give to somebody? What made you want to do it?
