Mermaid, 2′ x 4′ temporaryily installed architectural ceramic mural by Tammy Vitale
The kind of thing you have to love fell into my lap yesterday. A former Wylde Woman Gallery member who is now a tattoo artist is apparently working in a new place in D.C (britishink tattoo studio and gallery) and gave my name to her employer, Paul Roe, who has offered me a solo show in his establishment. Now who ever would have thought of that? Certainly not me! He is very taken with my torsos as he believes they fit the idea of decorative skin work and thus are the perfect art for his establishment. Do you think this has anything to do with me storming at the Universe recently that I’ve made my request for folks to please come get the torsos I have been making for them ( in the sense that I created the torsos therefore someone must be looking for them and it’s time to come claim them please) and I’m just supposed to supply the desire not the details, or so the current (and long time) wisdom suggests. There was about a 24 hour lapse there – not bad turn around. And the "detail", tattoo parlor in D.C., is certainly something I would never have come up. Do you think the Universe has a sense of humor?
My regular eletter from Molly Gordon (sign up here) arrived this week with a great discussion on pricing. Since we’ve had that discussion here before, I’m going to pass on the core kernal (subscribe and you get the whole thing – I’ve been a follower for years. She’s great!).
Molly says:
…here’s a simple practice to support sane pricing.
1. Set prices in advance and take a vow of abstinence from lowering them. Your price is your price is your price. You owe it to the people who have paid full price to honor the value that you and they have already established. Prices go up, not down, unless you are selling a commodity.
2. Use the buddy system to seal your vow. Wherever two or more artists (or architects or bodyworkers) gather together and agree to hold the line, there is light…
3. In lieu of selling [your work for less money], share yourself with people who are interested in your work. Talk to folks. Ask them questions. Answer their questions. (Tip: listen literaly and answer the question they ask, not the question your fears hear. for example, "Why is this so expensive?" is not the same as "How dare you charge so much?")
4. Work on platform and path [you need the rest of the newsletter for that – go subscribe]. If you are busy designing and building your dream, you are less likely to be distracted by the nightmare.
Don’t you just love that?! "If you are busy designing and building your dream, you are less likely to be distracted by the nightmare." Words to print out and post somewhere to read daily!
thought for the day: Resistance is about believing that you are vulnerable or susceptible to something not wanted and holding a stance of protection, which only holds you in a place of not letting in the Well-being that would be there otherwise. There is nothing big enough to protect you from unwanted things – and there are no unwanted things big enought to get into your experience. Abraham-Hicks, excerpted from a workshop in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, Nov. 4th 2000.

I like the idea of you 'storming at the Universe'! 🙂 I do that sometimes and it usually produces results … perhaps I should do it more often!
amazing piece of art; Loving it's placement
really liking the idea of waking people up and having them come looking for thier misplaced items.
excellent point of honoring prices of those who purchased in the past. Just excellent. Having that tattooed on my brain. (speaking of tattoos – affirmations on the skin?)
thanks for the molly newsletter link; signed up today.
Hey there Tammy – I feel like it's been forever since I've had time to read up on your blog.
I have a hard time with pricing, guess I'm not alone.
I can't help but give close friends discounts – it only seems right to me. I also like trading with other artists.
The pricing thing is a pain in the butt!
p.s. i think i need to calm down on the exclamation points. hehe. i guess i was just excited. 🙂 !!!!

"If you are busy designing and building your dream, you are less likely to be distracted by the nightmare."
WOW! That is seriously true. *pondering on it*
A gallery/tattoo parlor? Now THAT is different! Sounds very… interesting?
