Masks: Jade Ice and Tiger’s Eye, 9.5"t x 5.5"w and 9"t x 5"w respectively, hand-made original wall sculptures, $110 each, by Tammy Vitale
Here are two of the new masks. I have another in the works finishing, and 2 awaiting raku and today I will make more because I am on a mask role and I love making masks. These two are actually named after their main glaze, which is kind of cool because the glaze fits the mask just that perfectly. I took individual pictures of them for my files but those didn’t come out as well so I guess I’ll have to shoot them again.
I have 6 Dancing Women, and lots of prose and word tiles, and 2 plaques, one of which I attached two word tiles to and made something altogether different than I started out to make. Later for those photos. You’re just going to have to wait.
I have 3 hours of part-time job work to do today and then I have the whole day for the studio and that’s just where I’m going to be since I had the outlandish thought, last evening: Maybe I should do some housework. Oh, no! That won’t do at all. So I’m going to plop myself in the studio and play all day in between taking the dogs out.
Speaking of dogs, Gracie is settling and and almost has me trained to the point where I can get her outside for most of her bodily elimination needs. Last night, I was in the studio prepping the work that came out of the kiln for finishing (gluing on hangers and connecting heads to the Dancing Women‘s bodies and such) and Gracie mosied over to the paper under my 6 ft piece that has been standing there waiting for me to figure out something for months now, and peed. Now you know she doesn’t know better because I clapped my hands together and went "no-no" and she just looked at me, quite sure I wasn’t talking to her. So at some point I’m guessing she was paper trained at least!
So off I just went to find a picture of the dogs from a photo dump I did on Sunday so I could take pictures at the 9:30 Club (here’s one of the 2nd floor taken from the main floor before opening) and I only took a few and I didn’t do any art because I just enjoyed the day and the bustle and the music. And I can’t find that photo dump. I remember checking the download to be sure I had it and now I have no idea where I stuck it or what I named it. It had a bunch of pictures in it too. Oh well.
And I mentioned Esmirelda’ playing at the 9:30 Club my last post but didn’t give you a link – so here’s one.
I am off to work so I can play. I am going to strive mightily not to get side tracked by the computer today.
thought for the day: I grew up pretty much as everybody else grows up and one day seven years ago found myself saying to myself – I can’t live where I want to – I can’t go where I want to – I can’t do what I want to – I can’t even say what I want to. School and things that painters have taught me even keep me from painting as I want to. I decided I was a very stupid fool not to at least paint as I wanted to and say what I wanted to when I painted as that seemed to be the only thing I could do that didn’t concern anybody but myself – that was nobody’s business but my own.
