Wylde Woman, unique, hand made ceramic sculpture commission for HealingMagicHands at the Havens, outdoor safe by Tammy Vitale
This is the first Wylde Woman with twig hair, but lets face it, yarn it not going to hold up outdoors and this one is for an outdoor labyrinth. The hair was a challenge! But she’ll be off tomorrow or Monday to her new home, and it was fun changing up the design so that she would work outdoors.
Speaking of outdoors, the wylde outdoors, recently I noticed one of my goldfish had no head – one of the big ones. Sometimes I think we get raccoons and so I figured a raccoon had caught it. Then I noticed we have no frogs in the pond. By this time we usually have 7 or 8 medium sized ones. Then husband caught a small frog sitting in some rain water in the middle of our concrete trash pad and brought it up to the water and put it in. Scared two other small frogs into the pond and I mentioned I hadn’t been seeing any frogs. And then guess what we found?! A snapping turtle! Right there toward the top of the pond looking like leaves – I don’t know how Husband saw it! We found a baby one last year and neither of us can remember if we took it elsewhere – one doesn’t want a snapper in a pond this small! Now I’m wondering if there are several and I keep counting my fish. I’m down to 15 from 17. And no frogs. But it’s kind of cool that we live somewhere like this. I boxed the snapper and took it down and let it go in a wylde pond that doesn’t have goldfish and may have frogs but they’re wild – not my wylde ones that I like singing to me (no wonder it’s been so quiet!) Here’s a picture of snapper in the box I transported it in – not a good one. Even now it could pass for mud or leaves – their tales are so cool. Like a serrated knife edge.
Spent yesterday evening and some of today working in the studio packing torsos for Monday, making tags, rounding up hangers and bio to hang on the wall. Switched art in and out at Joy Lane Healing this morning and then took friend Dhyana to lunch for a belated birthday bash. Since I’ve started the part-time we don’t see as much of each other as before. So it was a nice visit.
After ever thing was packed, I planted some basil seeds. I picked some up today as I seem to have lost the ones I originally bought. I used the seed pots left over from buying impatiens and begonias earlier this year. That way they won’t be overcrowded which is what I tend to do with little seeds. I had a bunch left over but I need a big pot and I don’t have any left right now. Our tomato plants have little tomatoes on them!
Am reading the last of 4 books I picked up at the used book store last week, last for best: Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin. I love Margaret Atwood’s writing and poetry. She’s one of my favorites. This one has over 500 pages of pleasure awaiting me. Finished Alice’s Tulips by Sandra Dallas (I think that’s her first name). She wrote The Purple Pickle Club. I like her writing a lot and this book was no different. She really writes stories about women and women’s friendships and they kind of sneak up on you – the details accumulate until things get revealed or you think they get revealed. And then everything just kind of keeps echoing and you have to think it all over when you close the book. Great reading!
thought for the day: To live with reverence means being willing to say, "That is Life, we must not harm it," and "Those are our fellow humans, we must not destroy them," and mean it. It means reexamining the way that we treat the members of the animal kingdom that serve us so patiently. It means recognizing the right of the Earth. That the Earth has rights is a concept that is not even present in our species yet. Gary Zukav, The Seat of the Soul

Oh, I love love love the twig hair! It fits perfectly!
I'm also so happy to hear about Son. Katie and Joel and I have talked about him often, and we've all been sending good thoughts–
I've been redesigning my website–the new look is up and running, so now my next goal is to learn how to PUT MYSELF OUT THERE more. I put paypal buttons on the website–big step forward for me!
As for books–I love Margaret Atwood, too, tho I haven't read that one. Katie and I thought you might enjoy reading "Juniper" and "Wild Child" as they seem to 'fit' you. And have you read Ishmael/Story of B/Beyond Civilization by Daniel Quinn?
Let me know what you think of the new website if you get the chance–I'm always looking for feedback!
the blind assassin is a great book! like you, atwood is my favorite.
I just looked through the photo albums, what a great blog you have put together! And of course I love the fish…
I love the twig hair — she just looks like she belongs outside. Good for you – saving the turtle, unfortunately a lot of people wouldn't do that.
Oh, I LIKE the twig hair a LOT!
How cool that she's going to live by a labyrinth.
Isn't nature amazing with the camouflage? How lucky for your remaining fish and frogs that you found that snappy little guy in time.
I must admit some tomato envy here – I only have blossoms still!
Have a great weekend, Tammy. XO
Such a lovely post — I really enjoyed reading it! Do you walk the labyrinth, by any chance? There's one here in a nearby park that I walk whenever I get a chance.
I love your Wyld Woman with the twig hair.
