Torso_our_lady_peace_ready_to_fire Slab and hand-built clay torso, Our Lady Peace, in kiln ready to fire, by Tammy Vitale

Today a Pennsylvania/Lancaster Amish community buries four of its young daughters.  Daughters gunned down in a random violence that appears more and more in this nation.

We ask why.

Perhaps so that community can show the rest of us how to truely live.  The community has reacted with compassion towards the man’s own family (Charles Carl Roberts IV took his own life) and with forgiveness toward the man himself.

Unimaginable?

Perhaps we watch too many examples in the media and on tv that teach us the way to react to violence is with more violence.  Perhaps we don’t have enough stories (examples) of how to live in forgiveness and peace, releasing ourselves from the ties that hate binds us with.

Perhaps they have taken on the violence of the nation to teach us how to be alive in a new story of real peace.

Imagine if instead of vengence after 9/11, we had chosen fogiveness and outreach.  What do you think the world might be like today?

thought for the day:  Exercise your imagination.  Visualize peace.
