Today’s Art Every Day Month offering (day 9 already!) is a look at the progress I made this morning on my pieces Guardians. You may remember being introduced to this piece back at the beginning of AEDM. I have taken it apart and reworked pieces of since then, but now I think it is finally coming together. I have fired, and need to cold finish, the heron and some of the design pieces I made specifically for this piece. Then start applying it in sections – bottom first because it appears that is my most complete part. I’m going to have to figure out something more for the larger sky.
This piece is all about honoring those who take to heart the treasuring and guarding of the Chesapeake Bay and her denizens. She is dying a slow death. Those who would claim guardianship seem mostly to be making a good living at claiming and not much at doing. 2010 was the year everything was supposed to come together (back in 1995), and she is worse now than ever. I ask that you keep her in your prayers to whomever or whatever you pray. She needs all the positive energy beamed at her that she can get!

This is the way of the Web: everything is connected, each creature a protector of a particular crossroad of strands; watcher over a specific space. From elephants to ants, whales to microbes and we humans in between, each of us is a piece of the puzzle that pictures the unfolding Universe. When a protector disappears, its crossroads fray and the puzzle becomes darker, the way more difficult, remaining Watchers more easily get lost.
What shall we do, Watcher?

Hi Charlotte! great to “see” you here!
I’m sure you know plenty about the destruction of wetlands.
How is NO faring these days? Hubby keeps saying it’s time to go visit and we keep having to spend any extra moneyon stuff around the house. I’m SO ready!
It’s looking just beautiful, Tammy! It’s so sad what is happening to our wetlands and how many just don’t care.
I am back again Tammy to say thank you for all your input to my blog and for all your amazingly useful tips and instructions. I will get around to trying them all.
So glad I found you and your art!! 🙂

Tracey – It may be done today. The hard part, layout, is all done (Have to paint the heron yet). Now it’s just mix the thin set and start putting it on the board permanently. That doesn’t take more than 3 or 4 hours. So it’ll definitely be done before the end of the month!
Tracy – thanks!
Christine and Carolyn – thank you!
Gwen – the problem is not government cuts. The problem is that no one is paying attention, there is no organizing. The big non-profits who get all the money aim at legislation which can be reversed with the next election. They tried organizing (I was there) and found it empowered people which meant they (the org) was getting pressure to do what they said they were doing, not just keeping their jobs. The organizing went away. Meanwhile, the uninformed think they (the org.) are doing this great job and they (the people) don’t have to do anything.
Oh what a beautiful piece Tammy! And consider it done – lots of well-being and health beamed to the Chesapeake Bay.
This is looking beautiful already… that crane is wonderful and I hope you get a lot more done before month’s end so we can see its progress xx
It is looking so beautiful and it isn’t even finished. What a wonderful reminder to protect the Chesapeake Bay.
I gather the problem is government cuts and over-nitrification. Difficult to tackle without full governmental backing. I feel that any area under threat needs a massive input of help. I wish you every success in your battle. Yes we are all connected; inter-connected. Have you read Brian Bates?
I will follow you with great interest. I have a passion for ecology.

This is a beautiful tribute to the Chesapeake Bay. I am originally from that area , so it saddens me every time I hear the news. I will definitely send positive energy.
Thank you for this lovely piece.
