Go Ahead – Stay Inside Your Comfort Zone – It May Be Where You Do Your Best Work

All of my life I have believed I have to push and push and push – that “getting ahead”, or maybe just staying even, required discomfort, pain (“No pain no gain”), uncertainty.

Then, last week in an accountability meeting, a co-attendee said to me (upon looking at one of my vision journal pages that showed me outside my comfort zone):  “What would it look like if you are in your comfort zone?”

You know that is how angels speak to us – through the voices of other we invite into our circle.  And I listened because I think I was suddenly straddling an abyss over a complete world view change.

It struck me so hard that just 2 days later I have create my “Inside MyComfort Zone” vision board.  Done generally as any vision board/journal page is:  run through magazines and my photos and Pinterest; pull out words and pictures and textures that tug at my interest.  In this instance, I let everything sit overnight and sat down to make the board today (the day before christmas – my holiday gift to me).

Vision boards need to tap into intuition so you can’t think too hard.  I ran back through what I had gathered and started situating things on the page without thinking of rhyme, reason or agenda.  Here you see the result.

The questions at the top, the impetus for the Vision Journal page: What does “inside my comfort zone” look like?  And why do I think I must always push outside it?

I will mine the Vision Journal page for the answers that my subconscious mind put together through morning pages in the coming week – the rest of my holiday gift to myself.  It’s almost like reading Tarot cards:  what do you see? what does it mean: how will you use this information?

  • I’d say just about anything you pick up and try!

    Merry Merry! Stay warm!

  • As far as art goes I don’t even know what my comfort zone is yet–LOL!
    Happy holidays!! 🙂

  • WOW! Ellie!!!! So great to hear from you! I hope you will share what your labyrinth looks like these days – I can only imagine it in it’s mature beauty. I thought of your recently and wondered what you were up to. We moved and I found what was left of the redwood pieces you sent me years ago.

I very much look forward to reading your blog. I think some of us are moving back to blogs after having been taken over by FB. I got jump started again with Art Every Day Month – didn’t manage to blog every day, but did manage to do art every day. It did hook me back up with posting. And I’m doing my real estate blogs on Tuesdays, which will also anchor me back into the blogging world.

I cannot tell you how perfect that you show up at holiday day. Awesome gift!

  • Thank you for this lovely and inspirational page. I haven’t done this sort of vision quest collage for a long time, and I believe that I may just do that tomorrow.

I have not been communicating with you for a long time, but every time I walk my labyrinth I think of you because of the little dancer in the center. Despite the fact that I have not been present here for quite some time, another thing that has happened in the intervening time is that I started searching for my artistic voice. This is also largely due to your influence. I feel sort of bad that I never told you how powerful your voice is for me. But if it wasn’t for that, I probably never would have dived into art.

I have been art journaling for several years now and my desk has been transformed into a wonderful work space. I got sucked into Facebook and neglected my blog, but now that I am so very disenchanted with it I intend to start sharing my art work on my blog. Today I posted a few pages I have done in the last few months.

I plan to be around more, Tammy.

Beautiful post! Great board! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year. 2018 will largely be what we believe it will be. Keep your belief in yourself and your abilities.
