Back too soon today. Messy weather – there were whitecaps in Kent Narrows (which means nothing to those of you who don’t live in Maryland, but Kent Narrows is a placid little place with lots of pondy type bodies of water and today there were whitecaps). Wanted to wend my way home photographing barns. Alas, rain descended (but not until I made it to the western side of the Bay Bridge – thankfully….more about that at myspace maybe later today if I’m inclined.) and I only got one barn picture which I offer here as my AEM contribution for the day.
And as a bonus, a bit of Americana which I have been watching for what seems like much longer than 12 years, but the painting is dated 1994. The house is now posted no trespassing. Was once a toy store. One of those places that I watch – now next to an abandoned gas/food station at the edge of a very much expanding Cambridge.
I have this thing about houses. Not all houses, just some. There are houses that capture my imagination on routes that I regularly travel and I watch them and watch them change over the years. I don’t often photograph them but wish I had. I’ve been going to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for over 50 years. Just to have photographs of Route 50 as it runs through Easton would be wonderful. Back in the day 50 was a whiz of cars. Now it’s suburbia and no one is going more than 45 – not because they are being good citizens but because to go faster would be to run into the line of traffic in front of you.
Finally, the opening at Joie de Vivre was wonderful.
Artist Reception at Joie de Vivre
11/11/2006, Cambridge, MD
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Joie de Vivre Gallery, 410 Race Street, Cambridge. Work by clay artist Tammy Vitale. Jewlry Artists Lynn Stavdal & Jackie Voell.
Joy Staniforth, owner and creator, has amassed quite a community of folks who come out to see her monthly and this was no exception. I understand my photo was in the paper but I didn’t get a cc of it. Must followup for ye olde PR file. Sales were made, potential sales are well lined up, wonderful new folks (a lot!) met, including mixed media artist Mary Ann Schindler and her husband, sculptor Martin Vic Hughes (formerly of very early Torpedo Factory in Alexandria) of co -op Gallery 441 down the street from Joie de Vivre. Amazing work! Not a bad drive for great art! (3 hours from home). Had a great visit with classmate I remet at my 40th HS reunion who came with husband to fete the opening with me. Joy had to remind me I was to talk with others too! Which wasn’t hard. Great group of people who love art and aren’t afraid to ask questions (wondeful respite from some openings where you practically have to kidnap folks to get them to talk to you). So here are a bunch of photos of the display for your enjoyment and then I’m done here for the day (I want to go out and get book shelves and start bringing my books back into the house and getting reorganizes after the mad dash of taking everything out to the shed so we could, ha!, show our house. Gave a show and no body came.).
