Had time to think about what I might like to make today.
I had time to decide between and among several ideas: new necklace, finish earrings (I did but I’ll save that),
make a Spirit Doll with wood from Monterey CA and Life is a Very Camp.
I decided on the Spirit Doll. Which starts with one of my hand made (clay, glazed, fired) faces on Redwood driftwood
Give her some arms.
Give her a “body” by using material to bulk up and cover the raw cross of arms.
Bulk up some more. Netting always words well. This is doubled over and tied around her “waist”
Add material over the netting – I find that strips of material give more bulk than just one piece of solid cloth.
Bulk is good.
Floaty ties for yet more bulk.
Add a Third Eye decoration and hang decorations off her waist band.
“Hair”, flower in hair, feathers, a compass
because this Spirit Doll represents my true North
the one I find every time I find myself with one of my Tribes
(I have several. Yes, I am blessed)
Close up.
And here she is in all her final glory.
I hope you enjoyed the process. There’s enough here for you to figure out how to make your own.
I hope you do!

Interesting work. It reminded me of some dolls I found when I visited Peru many years ago. Thanks for the nice memory. 🙂
Beautiful Spirit Doll I love it!
Thank you all for coming to visit and staying to chat! I am glad you enjoyed the process – you really can make some amazing pieces out of just strips of cloth – thrift store scarves (the light flimsy ones) work well, too. I just don’t happen to have any right now.
I apologize for being so late visiting, but I haven’t been on the computer at all today. I was really impressed with your spirit doll, but most impressed with how you shared each detail What got me was the bulk you got from the strips of cloth. I’d never have suspected. Adding the netting helped, too, I suspect.
All in all, this a real beauty. I’m glad you chose your doll over the jewelry.
But, of course, she is beautiful……
She ended up quite colorful and glamorous! Fun seeing the process. 🙂
