Art Every Day Month 2018 (AEDM2018) and NaNoWriMo 2018 – Day 20

Today was all about Art Every Day Month as I treated myself to a class with Tricia Hall of the Bead Boutique.  She closed her retail doors but teaches in her home and around the area and if you ever have a chance to take a class with her, do.  She’s a great teacher and it’s always an adventure!

Today we made silver flower earrings – everything, earwire included, by hand.  These are Argentium silver and can be silver shiny but I like them antiqued.  That gives them a bluish tinge.  I would have stayed and made more in her well-stocked space but my car was wanting to overheat (it does sporadically, I never know when and I was an hour from home) and so I wanted to hit the road before the local traffic started its way North and made me sit which is what makes the car overheat.  So I plan to split these up into 3 pairs of earrings and make more later.  The “flowers” are made by heating 24g wire over water, forming a ball and letting the ball drop into the water.  I got 6 good flowers and lot’s of duds, but was getting better with practice and think I can use the “duds” anyways because Tricia says I can use the dapp on them (I have one) and they respond and cup pretty well.  We’ll see (maybe I”ll do that for tomorrow’s offering).

Tricia took the picture of me without my knowing it – I was laser focused.  Fire.  I’m given to burning myself regularly.

Tricia demonstrating how to make the balls, get them as big as possible before they dropped off of their own accord. She made it look easy.
The setup, and the bowl with my “flowers.
Tricia’s example and my “stems” with ball ends for the flowers
the non-flowers on the lower left, and the flowers that worked on their stems for flux and solder (not yet attached)
Set up for soldering, which, as it turns out, didn’t work quite as planned, but we managed and now know how to do it with no problem.
After you heat up the Argentium, you let it sit and cool, and then cool it completely in cold water.  Flowers soldered and circle for the jump ring also soldered although that isn’t a requirement.
everything ready for the final pickle, machine scrub and antiquing
Finals earring, antiqued (I simply could not get a good close up and think I need to polish the “stamens” a bit so you can see them better, as well as the stash of beads I bought because, beads, and she has a ton on good sale.

NaNoWriMo

The goal is 1500 words,  Nothing written yet but I’ll be on it by 6pm and I should be able to get that before I drop into bed.  That will put me across the 40K mark, and that is a real goal for me today.  But I can do it tomorrow if I have to.  Life is intruding and I have to adult a bit, which totally sidetracked me.  It is what it is.

update:  total words, 40004, today’s total:  1,415
