Art Every Day Month 2018 (AEDM2018) and NaNoWriMo 2018 – Day 13

Art Every Day Month 2018 (AEDM)

Projects get shuffled.  Today, the easiest thing for me to do was to pull out two ceramic pieces I need to finish for an invitational gallery show in February and start working on them.

I had started to finish the mask months back (these were made at the winter semester of the local community college this year), but didn’t like the color and never got back to it.

Today I decided that if I put down gesso first, the paint might be easier and smoother.  So I gessoed both pieces and started over on the mask.  I put down the first, background layer on the face.  The good thing about acrylic is that you can go over and over it.  The gesso did in fact make it easier to get the color relatively smooth (as smooth as I might want it), so it was a good experiment.

in order:  the original start/stop on the mask, the reworked mask, and the gessoed mask next to the ungessoed fish so you can see the difference from raw fired clay to gesso.

NaNoWritMo2018

words today:  2257

Total word count to date:  30,157 (yep, broke 30K.  Go me!)  I’m starting to see where the climax is going to happen but not what the outcome is.  Meanwhile, I’m going back and filling in background information.  This is just brainstorming, the first draft.  I can do that!  I’m actually pretty happy with the foundation I’m laying down.  It absolutely needs crafting at the language and sentence level, but the ideas are there, which, for me, is the hard part.
