You will note there is a gap between the last “Art Every Day” and this one. Hubby’s hospital stay: surgical biopsy for the type of cancer in his gut. 4 days at the hospital with him – one of those days I posted a gorgeous sunset from the hospital window to the Art Every Day FB page, but didn’t get around to posting here. Sometimes you just have to let things go.
In case you’re interested, he has b cell follicular lymphoma, which is a very slow growing cancer, one they take a wait and see attitude with as opposed to attacking it. No chemo for now. That is good news to us. He is asymptomatic and wouldn’t even know he had it except for the motorcycle accident last year when he had a zillion CT scans for all the breaks. They found it. The cancer docs thought it not important to address until after the throat cancer was dealt with. The throat cancer appears to be in remission (but we are only several months out and you know how that goes).
I am hopeful that I can get back on a schedule. He is home for about 2 weeks – can’t lift, still shuffling. Staples out in 2 weeks, so that’s my marker. He’s eating well and not taking too much in the way of pain medicine, but can’t lift the dog either so housework and dog are mine all mine.
I managed to miss a few days on NaNo too, but was ahead enough that I”m still good for the goal of 50K, even for 60K which is my real goal since about 10K was written before the start of NaNo….I don’t know whether or not to be a puritan about it. Probably not. Given my life at the moment.
Art Every Day Month 2018
Today’s art is beautifying my environs with no budget. My kitchen belongs to the 1970s. Right down to the decaled tiles on the wall, which I hate but couldn’t figure what to do given I don’t have the money for a kitchen redo. Enter on-line research and opaque stickers for wall tiles (that’s what I googled). With their help, my kitchen has had a tiny facelift but, you know, one of those changes that just makes all the difference: I don’t have to face the old tiles every time I enter the kitchen ever again. Next in line (and ordered this morning) are copper plate covers so I can et ride of the wallpapered ones that once matched the wallpaper in the kitchen which was too much to live with and gotten rid of and painted (thanks to friends who helped strip and son who painted) last year, within three months of moving in.
It’s the little things that make the world.
just for fun – a picture of the kitchen at the start of it all. They put the wallpaper on without a sizer so it ripped a good bit of the wallboard covering down, all of which had to be plastered and sanded. All bows to son the magician. The wall on the right is now a half wall, and that corner is now a closet. It totally changed the feel of the room and I love it every single day.

Hope to run about 3K today. That would make me really happy. But I just never know about my days anymore, so I set a goal and, if circumstances prescribe, I let it go.

Yes, I missed you and appreciate the update. I certainly hope your husband continues to improve. it’s hard enough to keep up with AEDM, much less NaNo. I applaud you. I have a friend who has wallpaper in every room of her house and REFUSES to get rid of it, even though it is SO dated. I’ve never had wallpaper and applaud your son for his help with your project. Paint is the easy and cheap way to go, but having to spackle/plaster the wall makes the job more costly.
I hope the hubby recovers quickly and well. I am amazed at how you are keeping up with things in general. Best to you both! 🙂
I have to say that this wouldn’t have been my decorating choice in the 70s! I have never been too much of a fan of wallpaper everywhere tho I did have an accent wall with matching curtain (that I made) in my kitchen in the early 80s. Mostly I painted the walls for my kids with Winnie the Pooh characters and ABCs.
Hope your husband is back up on his feet and has a successful recovery and “cure”. It amazes me how time changes our home tastes-which can be a good thing because the 70’s aren’t exactly the height of beauty-to me at least. good luck with some renovating.
