Recycled Furniture: plant stand, with hand-made tiles by Tammy Vitale (pre grouting).
This little table was at Sea Scapes and took a very bad tumble. The original tiles were all knocked off and broken. So I brought it home and made new tiles for the top and there it is, or was. It lasted not even one day. The owner’s mother took it home for her foyer. So it finally found its home!
Today Husband is helping me load in at BritishInk for my solo show there. Of course the weather is calling for 90 degree and humid when we’ve had lovely warm weather, cool nights and the humidity has been non-existent. We will also drop Torso: Zen II by the 9:30 Club so her new owner can pick her up at his convenience. So it’s been a good, if busy week.
Saturday I went to Heron’s Way Gallery opening for Rose Beitzell, who also happens to be one of the owners. I haven’t hung out with them for a long time and I always enjoy talking with them. This time was no exception. Of course I forgot my camera or I could show you Rose’s wall. She does beautiful pyrography (sp?) – wood burning: very very fine and intricate. She also does beaded bracelets – you know, the little tiny beads on looped string that are gorgeous and would make me go blind. She loves that intricate stuff. And I greatly admire it. I love Rose’s work because she is always into something new while hanging on to what she’s already learned. Her art is a marvel!
After that I went up to say "hi" to Tricia Darrow, owner of the Bead Boutique. She was having an opening at Artworks@7th in North Beach. Julia Musengo, whose art and altars I have in several places around my house, made the food for the opening – one doesn’t miss Julia’s food. Tricia had many lovely new pieces of jewelry, but she is a jewelry machine. My jewelry rack is full of her designs because they are unique and I love her work, and from time to time in addition to what I buy, we trade my work for hers. Works for me!
I’m on a reading tear. 4 books in 4 days…well, no, not quite that but only because I keep falling asleep. I have been doing an inordinate amount of sleeping but I guess I need it.
Father’s day started with Son calling early. Husband was still asleep so we talked for 45 minutes (!) about life and recovery and AA and NA meetings and work and hopes and the future. When all goes well, he will get his first chip July 1. He has a sponsor and a favorite meeting although he seems to go to a slew of them – and good for him!
I took Husband to breakfast at our favorite dining place, the Dry Dock, then we went to see Knocked Up which is very graphic and set to amuse the guys and still be a gals’ kind of story (with some guy stuff thown in). We laughed a lot. Then Daughter called and wished a happy day. Then we went to our cottage dock and hauled in 8 nice male crabs (we always ALWAYS let the females go no matter how big and beautiful because in Maryland waters they have not yet spawned), came home and fixed them up. Then went back to the Dry Dock for after dinner drinks, and up on Solomons for an appetizer to watch the sun set, then home to fall asleep over our respective books. Great day!
AND! there’s another snapper in the pond! But we haven’t caught this one. So I’m guessing we must have had a litter or whatever you call it because that will be #3. Now I’m worried for my fish and frogs – although suddenly I’m seeing lots of the little frogs around. We are keeping an eye out for it, but you know they look like dead leaves and mud. We scrounged around in the pond with the crab net emptying out dead leaves but that’s all we got – dead leaves. So this summer’s adventure will be trying to catch however many others are in there and releasing them into the wild swamps where surely they will be happier!
thought for the day: Resistance is about believing that you are vulnerable or susceptible to something not wanted and holding a stance of protection, which only holds you in a place of not letting in the Well-being that would be there otherwise. There is nothing big enough to protect you from unwanted things – and there are no unwanted things big enough to get into your experience. Abraham-Hicks, excerpted from a workshop in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, Nov 4th, 2000. All is well.

I'm so glad things are going well for your son.
I've been on a book binge myself lately, but I'm running out of material. So I'm on the lookout for more. Do tell – what four books did you read? (and were they any good?!)
