2D sketch Island Girl  Island Girl Sketch, 11.5 x 14 on dry media by Tammy Vitale

Leah, our Art Every Day Month host, wrote today about art not working out the way you want it.  Well, here's one that isn't exactly what I had in mind but the point is doing it not worrying about perfection.  So here's a sketch to share should you decide to color it in yourself.

Leah gave me a Kreativ Blogger award today.  Thanks Leah.

Kreative Blogger award Rules are:  link to the person who tagged you.  Post the rules on your blog:

Write 6 random things about yourself.  Tag 6 people and let each of them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their. blog.

Go back to the awarder and let her know that your entry is up.

So, 6 random things: (1)   I just used a Nutmeg rinse on my hair.  I have been using Egyptian Plum but decided that I no longer need to be that exotic; (2) Husband just fixed an amazing dinner:  shrimp, grilled asparagus and homemade french fries and I ate my whole serving; (3) I built a fire for the house tonight since the temperatures have been dropping all day – I love building fires in our woodstove to keep the house warm.  I feel linked to all the women before who built warm fires and feel blessed that I have a heating system to back me up should the fire go out; (4) I spent a lot of time in the studio today, and made 4 things for a special local small show.  Nothing can be bigger than 3"x5" so I made 4 tiny totems; (5) I made 2 more Heron plaques since the one I made the other day sold.  I find that I am much more willing to make fun of myself by making herons in these very slow art days; (6) my yard badly needs raking but I ignore that and prune the pansies which smile from my back deck as I stand by the kitchen window.

Passing this along to Jana because she loves being tagged and because she needs good vibes sent her way; to Tinker and Ascender Rises Above because they have fabulously Kreativ blogs and post very very regularly and I love them; to  Sacred Circle Mandalas because I want you to see her amazing art which she has made into a calendar; to Serena Lewis who I found through AEM and whose blog I greatly enjoy, and to Steve who I also found through AEM and whose art is fabulous.

Healing Magic Hands at The Havens passed along a meme today, too, but I will save that for another day.  Hopefully later this week.  She got tagged by Aphra Behn whose blog I haven't read in a long time, so I clicked over and enjoyed myself there for a while, too (Can you tell this is my day off?).

So here's the finished piece, Island Girl, which still isn't my idea of what I wanted but there she is, so here she is.2D Island Girl final

thought for the day:   It is hard to kill an artist, but it is very easy to discourage one.  We all know people who tell us our dreams are foolish, pie in the sky, whimsy, and that we should be grateful for what recognition we have won and settle for a lower creative ceiling than our high-flying dreams require... If we are to "take heart" and encourage ourselves, we must first find our heart.  Our truth lies in what we love, and as we remind ourselves that we have loved and do love, we find our way unerringly back to the place from which accomplishment is possible.

  • you're quite welcome!

and yep, no worrying about perfection. i do like the drawing though for what it's worth!

  • Hi Tammy – your island girl gives me a feeling of sweet wind in Hawaii – we could use a bit of that warmth!!
I'm glad you liked my little dragon! Dhyani Ywahoo (www.sunray.org & http://www.beautywayproductions.com) writes about the dragons in the Smokey Mountains in her book 'Voices of our Ancestors' – she's the 27th generation lineage keeper for the Ywahoo family traditions, & writes with care & crystal clarity.

I feel like Jana – whee! colouring 🙂

    take care

  • Thank you, Tammy! You made my day, yet again. I feel so honored to receive a creativity award from you, you exceedingly creative woman, you. I'll pass it on, in a day or two – knee deep in the story, at the moment. Love the pages to color (how I would so love a whole Goddess coloring book by you! ok, I'll stop with that…). Love today's quote too – you always seem to have the best ones in your thoughts for the day. Thanks again!

  • WOW.

Four coloring pages to print! FOUR!!!!!!! *inner child is doing a happy dance and looking for some highlighters to begin coloring with*

I didn't realized how horribly I have neglected the inner child lately until she heard the word coloring. LOL

Thanks for the tag, it DOES make me feel warm and fuzzy and loved!!! :o)

Mmm… a nutmeg rince sounds like it would smell plenty exotic to me!!!!!

  • tammy, I like this piece although she is not as mysterious and vibrant as some of your others…still I can feel her energy! I also enjoyed reading your 6 random things, especially connected with building the fire as women have done for centuries ….

congratulations on your award too! 🙂

  • Tammy I love your art. So vibrant and colourful. What type of crayons do you use, if you don't mind me asking? I've got to get me some of them!

  • oh here's the tag… couldnt find it the other day. Thanks for award; I will get to it later this week. I am not posting daily presently, trying to work on larger pieces of art.
