Elizabeth lives mostly in the back of her 2004 PT Cruiser where she has pulled out the seats to make room. Who needs the extra weight anyways?
Lizzie to her parrot, Betts to her Mom and June Bug (long story) to her Dad, Elizabeth feels she had been living the spaces between her life for a while but isn’t quite sure how to move backward into “then”, or forward into “will be.” She isn’t even sure how to be in “now”, although she reads a lot about “now” in the books she borrows in stacks from the library. And, oh by the way, she sort of likes this wherever-place-she -is a lot more than some places she’s been. Which places she can’t quite remember but she remembers darkness where here there is lightness to be had daily. Wherever “here” is of course.
She owns two pair of jeans, 3 t-shirts, one sweat shirt, 5 knit scarves that people keep asking her to sell to them (she made every one of them), and a pair of fingerless gloves made from the arms of a sweater that finally fell apart last year. she likes mismatched socks (which is a good thing) and wears tennis shoes from the thrift store until they fall apart. Then she buys another pair. She feels quite rich in the abundance of her life.
Elizabeth collects palm-sized flatish white rocks from the riverside where she takes walks in the morning and evening. The great thing about white rocks is that you can see them and move them into different formations by the light of the moon – even by the light of a small sliver of moon. Sometimes Elizabeth makes carns of them along the river, and makes up stories about pixies and fairies and imps who live in the woods and watch for her to mark where all the real treasure hides buried and waiting. (None of her stories are in any book you’ll find).
When it rains, she loves to listen to the rhythm of it on the car roof – the different cadences, and sounds from whisper to drum. Rain is her most favorite thing next to wind. She remembers sleeping with her window open as a child and listening to the oaks around her capturing the wind’s stories as it passed through their leaves and branches.
Everyone has a big dream, and Elizabeth’s is to visit: Beebetown Iowa, Bird-in-Hand, PA, Black Gnat in KY, Bugsculffle in TN, Goose Pimple Junction VA, Shoofly NC and (far far away) Turkey Scratch AR. To that end, she has made 5 more scarves, 8 spirit dolls from rocks and river detritus, and 4 baskets from wild grapevine to sell at the Maker’s Mart this weekend. Watch for her! She’ll be so glad you dropped by!
