For AEDM 7 (November 7th) I showed you the beginning of this spirit doll. She wasn’t Wylde Crone Rising (AEDM 11) then….she was just energy asking for expression.
Since I started work on her, that energy has become front and center in my creative cycle, mostly expressed in writing, but also felt in a swirl of “stuff” wanting to come through and my needing to play catchup with work. And make several raku masks so I can get them bisqued and ready for raku classes with the fabulous Ray Bogle. I’m hoping some of his magical understanding of raku firing will rub off.
And then there will be Wylde Crone masks. Can you feel the excitement?
Because I know some folks won’t click back on the above links, I’ll just go ahead and start from the beginning of Wylde Crone Rising Spirit Doll so you can see the process.
First find a lovely piece of wood. This is redwood sent to me years back by an on-line blogger friend (before FaceBook was the thing).
It just happened to have a lovely opening in the back where I could thread 2 oak sticks
which I covered with seam binding double wrapped for strength, and glued on her head, which is a glazed ceramic piece that I made.
Then I found shimmery cloth for her undergarment, tied at the “waist” with more seam binding.
I am a hoarder of material. I have dreams of actually sewing again but the truth is beyond piecing material for updoing chairs, it doesn’t much look like that’s going to happen. But all the material is stashed and labeled so when I’m in a creative frenzy I don’t need to stop and go shopping. I know right where to find it. I so know where to find it that I can find a 40+ year old piece of matching material when I need it for a chair seat – and I don’t think of myself as organized. Well, so much for self definition!
The next step is cutting strips of material that feels right for her spirit. I glue the material on her outstretched “arms” and tuck some of it under her belt. It starts to look like a kimono.
Then I hit the beads for something interesting. I didn’t take a picture of it but I did braid some of the ribbons in her hair and put a metal dangle on the end, as well as bling and the word “wisdom” at her neck.
Finally, I scratched around to see what other goodies I might have hanging around to finish off her ensemble: a dream catcher earring (only one), a clay pot I have had banging around my desk forever – have no idea where it came from, and a piece of selenite I bought in Ocala, FL, visiting my son years ago – it clears negative energy. I wire wrapped it with copper.
I know you’ll want to see her back, too, so here it is:
and there you have it: Wylde Crone Rising is born! She is 13″ tall and 15″ wide, and she destroyed my bead room table – it is buried under layers and layers but that’s okay. It’s definitely been clean and straight way too long!
