Two eagles at Westmoreland VA state park (two of many we saw - or maybe we just saw these two more than once. No shortage of eagle sightings!

1.  To look up and see

2.  To look down and pay attention

Westmoreland, Va a tiny lady bug makes her way across a footprint in the sand.

3.  To remember wonder

4.  To awaken awe

5.  To meet new people

6.  To stretch the boundaries of your imagination

7.  To wander without feeling lost

8.  To build new foundations

9.  To strengthen old traditions

Breakfast, lunch and coffee, Montross VA about 5 miles from Westmoreland's front gate. Verrry small town - and yet we discovered two other places to dine!

10.  To remember who you always wanted to be

11.  To *finally* find the place to hold a women’s retreat! (yes!  at last!  a beautiful space to walk trails, listen to waves, watch eagles, find treasures, and create something whole and wonderful to take back to the “real world.”)

We had two nights.  We went because our previously planned, 10 day, amazing vacation to watch whales off the Cape, and wander on a Rhode Island off-shore island was cancelled due to unexpected and very expensive house and car repairs.

No mind – any vacation, even just two nights, in the right place, can be refreshing if you keep the right state of mind.

And it wasn’t hard to do that in this park.  Many thanks to hubby for dreaming it up and finding way more than either of us anticipated (the perfect spot for a retreat!  I have been searching for something reasonably close to home for 4 years!  And here it is!)

Need more reasons?  Here are 10 more! (yes, there’s overlap – but where you are changes the meaning so hugely it doesn’t really matter!)

Sueno Doggie: "You cannot leave me if I lay on your bag!"
Westmoreland twin fawns (that's momma's rump just behind the stump in the lower left corner)
Treasure just waiting to be made into totems of our visit - yes I'll show you when I'm finished with these (and the bluebird feather a bluebird dropped for hubby while he was walking the girls)

  • I LOVE this post. Taking the time to breathe and enjoy Mother Earth’s beauty….too bad we need vacation to this :). Love the pictures, my spirit dances at sight of the beach & coffee house.

I usually go there at least once a year for a few days for a re-charge–off season you feel like you have the park to yourself!! and the efficiency cottages are great –fireplaces-and they brought me free wood ea afternoon—so far away yet 15 min from my house!!!!

Karen – I can hardly believe this will be your FIRST craft fair! Your work is enchanting – the world needs it! Hurry!

Patrice – isn’t it amazing that we’re willing to drive ourselves into the ground but not give ourselves a bit of space to be quiet?! Even when we KNOW that space will (and indeed did) bring wonderful new things to our creativity!

  • You sound refreshed and wonderful, the trip sounds grand. Good for you for making the time to relax, it’s a treat and a trick I’m still learning.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Relaxing and energizing all at the same time. Things always seem to work out the way they’re supposed to, somehow…

I’m going to do my first craft fair in October–kinda a scary step for me, but Katie has been encouraging me to do it, and she’s right.

So I’ll be back, gleaning all your good tips from your blog!

Glad you had such a great couple of days!
