Torso_untitled_before_breaking Here’s a new torso – raku – one of two I finished today.  Neither what I was after, but at least this one was presentable.  Nice crackle on the lower left leg, nice iridescence on the left body, pretty copper edgings on the leaves on the right.  Probably underfired – the yellow tinge tells me I should have left it in longer.

Alas, it has been one of those days.  Even this piece, which I had plans for, is not to be.  I bumped the photo cube table and now you see the only picture of her that will ever be whole.  Because now she is in 3 pieces (and she didn’t even crack along a lower fault line from firing).  Very. Big. Sigh.Torso_untitled_broken

And I want candy.  I really really want candy and the only vehicle here is the van with its light problems (not a problem says Husband – they’ll work.  Yeah.  right).  I missed the Bronze Door opening today (they are opening a tea shop adjunct) because driving the van to Prince Frederick didn’t sound fun.  And then the torsos didn’t work very well.  Oh well.

So perhaps we have pixies and now isn’t the time to do much more than veg.  So I went outside, raked pine needles and leaves and lay on the deck and watched clouds.  Something I don’t do as much as I probably should these days.  And saw a gnat catcher – which is a bird we don’t see much around here.  And cleaned out the pond of some leaves – many more to come but the frogs are still out so I don’t have to worry about disturbing their hibernation and I got ahead of the spring cleaning a bit. All was not lost!

Here’s a really nice business post for you at Judy Dunn’s Artrepreneur on starting a business from scratch, and a Christerical Contest at Chris Bolmeier Art.  Sign up for her blog, tell her I sent you, and maybe I win 3 of her prints.  Or you do if you can get 5 people to sign up. You know it’s a great blog when you see "Christerical."  Great name.  Her contest is a great write up.

Here’s today’s AEM piece, Girl on a Horse.  Enjoy!

thought for the day:  If you had a heart attack and had to work two hours per day, what would you do?  …If you had a 2nd heart attack and had to work two hours per week, what would you do?  …If you had a gun to your head and had to stop doing 4/5 of different time-consuming activities, what would you remove?  …Learn to ask, "If this is the only thing I accomplish today, will I be satisfied with my day?…Put a post-it on your computer screen or set an outlook reminder to alert you at least 3 times daily with the question, "Are you inventing things to do to avoid the important?" [Husband and I call that productive procrastination – it’s how the house gets cleaned – avoiding something important.]  Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek

  • Thanks for the link Tammy…. And if I could give you some chocolate, I would! I am so sorry about the torso.

  • aww so sad about the torso. I sat looking at it for a few minutes; she appeared (to me) to have a wound which was represented by the bronze coloring on the right hand side… and I wondered if she was a breast cancer survivor. But then she fell; and that was just sad. 🙁

  • "Very. Big. Sigh." Really? No stomping around, shouting, tearing your hair out, kicking yourself in the butt? I'm afraid I might have had some sort of audible display of temper if a disaster of that sort happened to me. Poor Tammy. On the other hand, I have seen you incorporate "disaster" into Totems, so I'm sure you resisted the immediate urge to pulverize the wreckage.

  • *hug* Trapped at home, having a bad day, AND no chocolate???????

    I hope today is better.

  • Hi Tammy, Your drawing, the women on the horse: your drawings are just very unique, very special.

That thing with the torso is indeed a bummer.
Perhaps you can make her a bra out of flowers and crystals and fix it? I know you'll do something with it, I'm confident.

There are days like this. I thought your reaction to it was very philosophical, raking the pine needles and watching the clouds! Best thing you could do, I guess. My own personal pixies these days try to transform me into a marmot, and they sit on my chest in the morning, when I want to get up early…:)
Thanks so much for the thought of the day, which is very helpful:)

Ahhh Tammy, don't you hate it when those pixies sneak in and mess things up?!! What a shame about the torso, I loved the colors you achieved with it. Hope the van gets fixed, the kiln gets busy and those pixies go back into hiding where they belong!
