Wylde Women’s Wisdom

There are paths but first you must take the step and believe they are there, even when you can’t see them.  Sort of like Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail when he had to step out over the abyss without being able to see what was going to catch his footfall.  I love that scene and carry it with me as encouragement.  I also surround myself with others who are on the trail of the creative spirit, following their heART for all its worth and, like me, may be scared to death it won’t work (but don’t think that, or, goddess forbid, say it aloud or the devils multiply like rabbits).  Tammy Vitale (from a an earlier blog:  What Color is Your Life? • […] Not complaining, really, just observing.  The Deep Darks have gone.  Nothing changed except maybe the moon’s position.  Or maybe it’s just really hard to stay in the Deep Darks when one has frogs serendaing outside her window and wind whispering secrets in newly minted leaves.  Which gives some credence to just sitting through those things and understanding they are all part of the Spiral Path. […]

  • Thank you for sharing this Tammy. I call the spiral “falling on my face” when it’s a downwards spiral! Oy! At least the spiral ends, thus smack! Good news is, I get up eventually.

  • hi Tammy – that is one of my all-time favourite and inspirational movie scenes as well – where Indiana has to step into the abyss and TRUST that the “step” will appear. What a beautiful metaphor and imagery for all of us to remember… thank you for reminding me of it today!

Baye – I am in the throes of trying to plan a retreat for early November (Retreat, Review, Recharge, Return)but am having a hard time finding a good place. Stay tuned. It will show up here on my blog and on FB and everywhere else I can think to post it once it’s planned. =]

Oh – and reiki is so good!

  • Such great points here. I think the comfortable spots are often hard to leave even though we know perfectly well that we are stifling ourselves.

Some of your wisdom is sinking in for me. I’m starting Reiki classes next weekend–something I would have found a million excuses not to do a few months ago.

    Do you ever do retreats?

Charlotte – you are so very much NOT alone! check out my post on the Deep Darks – the comments. I don’t think this is “misery loves company” – I think this is: okay, there’s something moving in the Universe because I’m not the only one feeling it! Hang in there!

Stacey – the past few months have been me and the well – and I came to that same conclusion: sit with it and don’t fight it. Am going to look up that book! thanks!

Emelie – turly vlogging is one of the things I promised myself this year and it is a TRUE adventure seeing myself on the screen. I have to admit until I get used to seeing myself it’s sorta like taking medicine that doesn’t taste as good as it might but it so good for you!

  • Really great vlog, Tammy! I’m so glad you’re doing this. I’ve been dipping in and out of the abyss for some time now and it’s good to know I’m not alone. 🙂

  • Ooh! I got goosebumps from watching your video, Tammy!

I felt like I got an electric shock when I saw you turn the spiral on its side to show the abysses, so I have no doubt you were completely connected to Source when you got that epiphany.

Getting to the place where you can appreciate the abyss, and learn from it, means making peace with the darkness.

To do this, I take a page from another of my favorite novels: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami.

The protagonist, faced with a rough patch in his life, is told by a wise man that he must “sit at the bottom of the well” for a while—he must face his difficulties and, for a while at least, not strive against them, but seek to understand the lessons they offer.

I have taken this so much to heart that most of my friends know that “sitting at the bottom of the well” is my way of saying that after a tough day, or week, or month I am going to my quiet place in order to discover what I am supposed to learn.

Allowing myself that time has helped me so much to get higher on that spiral!

Thanks so much for this great post! (And MORE video blogs, please!!)

  • it can feel like a really good place to be, but it’s still stuck… wow tammy.
