Wylde Women, hand-made ceramic wall sculptures, approx 9" tall, with yarn and beads by Tammy Vitale

Fast post this morning since I didn’t post yesterday and am pre-posting for some days while I’ll be gone.

Spent all day yesterday finishing up a batch of Wylde Women who you will meet over the next several days.  Or if you can’t wait (and if I get time) you can peruse in the Wylde Women album in the left margin.  I had just enough yarn and hair to finish this batch – I broke one and have 4 more that need some work before they are finished.  I plan to drop off several at Transient Crafters in Charlottesville, VA on my way home.  On the way down, I will be traveling the Richmond, Durham Asheville route to miss the promised snow which started at showers and is now up to 3 inches on my travel day.  Last I looked, Richmond and points south are just getting rain.  I guess I’ll look again today and hope they’re wrong, erring the the direction of predicting too much since they’ve done that all year up until Sunday a week back, when the ice storm and snow were heavier than predicted.  I just know this is to discourage me and see if I really mean I’m willing to adventure off on my own behalf – it’s a test.  I intend to take it.  If the road get bad, I’ll stop somewhere, but go I will in the wee early hours to try to get out ahead of anything bad.

Coming home I intend to have sunshine and clear roads and travel up route 81 and back into Virginia which will take me right by Charlottesville where I need to switch stuff around anyways.

Here is where I will be:  Bend of Ivy.  Drool.  Wish you could be there!  And say a prayer for my safe travel!

thought for the day:  The job of the poet is to tell the truth no matter what.  As James Baldwin said, "Artists are here to disturb the peace" and by "the peace" he means our tendency to be vague and inactive and not attentive enough to the dynamism and the requirements of living.  Michale S. Harper,  Bill Moyers’ The Language of Life:  A Festival of Poets

  • Hello Tammy!
I can't believe how beautiful the place you're staying looks…! I'm glad you're taking this trip on your own behalf. Drive safely!

I wanted to explain my "inner critic" picture since you asked. It's the "bully" on the movie A Christmas Story. Have you seen it?

The quote about poetry is beautiful, too. Thank you. I just may try to "tell the truth" tonight!

  • happy trails, tammy-
