Mask Erin  Mask:  Erin, 15"t x 7"w x 4.5"d, hand sculpted, one of a kind, clay wall mask by Tammy Vitale $145

Erin  is my offering for Day 3 Art Every Day Month.  One of my favorite things in clay is making some that is hard (fired clay) look drapey and soft (the headpiece here).  I especially love it in marble and can't imagine having the talent to do that – but I can do it on my pieces because clay is drapey stuff when it's soft.  Be sure to click over and check out other blogs participating!

So – exactly what is joy?

I think it's often hard to define but when you feel it, you know it.  And when you see it, you know it.

So today I am offering:  Joy is….a pile of leaves!

So much possibility.

So much adventure.

So much pure movement.

I hope you will find joy in these pictures (the last is Daughter, Husband and Grandson having a grand search for the pterodactyl that somehow got lost in all this – happily, he was found).

A simple pile of leaves

Jumping in  Whoosh!

Leaves descending  Finding ptero

So, do you all have your plan in place for going and VOTING tomorrow?  Vote as if the World depends on it – it just may.

Thought for the day:  Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.  We are the ones we've been waiting for.  We are the change that we seek.  Barack Obama

  • Just catching up – you have been a busy lady! And just look at all the joy, beauty, love (and pteradactyl) you've been finding!

  • Wow, your mask is amazing! She seams so at peace, like she is having a wonderful dream.

  • I made a flip statement about politicians and feel a need to correct it. There have been many admirable politicians, who held a world view that went beyond their personal situation, who touched the world in a positive and inspiring way. Tammy mentioned Mahatma Ghandi. I quickly think of Nelson Mandala, Vaclav Havel. Canadians had Pierre Trudeau, whose intellect allowed him access to the "bigger picture." I also really admired Roy Romanow, a former premier of Saskatchewan, whose Romanow Report made suggestions to improve the Canadian health care system. So, there are a few, just as starters. I'm sure there are many more.

  • I really love it, it is soooo beautiful. fantastic job!

  • Looks like fun.

  • Erin looks as if she is kissing the air: she's lovely.

I have to comment on the Obama quote: He's not the first to say this, but he has to be the first politician to say this! If a politician gets this idea, he is an excellent leader. It means he is interested in the empowerment of others, not just in grabbing power and using it for his own aggrandizement and personal gain. What a refreshing change!

  • Hi Tammy. I am truly enjoying the sculpture, the drape of the headpiece is beautiful. But I love the total peace in the expression on the face.

I have my plan in place for tomorrow. Yesterday we went out on Get Out The Vote canvassing. It was a beautiful fall afternoon in the 70s. Tomorrow I am going to be volunteering all day the Democratic Headquarters. After I vote in the AM I have a date out in Eldridge with a trio of rednecks who have never voted before. They got registered, have all their paperwork in line, and are hot to vote for Obama because they just can't afford another four years of the republicans. Then I go back to town and will be available for whatever they need me to do.

I believe Obama is going to win, but I am not going to act like it is a fait accomplis.

  • What a beautiful sculpture! I love the purple drapey stuff. 🙂

  • Erin is breath~taking and breath~giving! It DOES look very soft and totally flowy. Absolutely beautiful work!

Whenever I see a pile of leaves I think of this: One of my favorite memories of my teenage years was with a beautiful girl named Dena. We came upon an alley with a pile of leaves. She said, "Let's jump in them." And we did – at 18 years old, we jumped and threw and lept and landed and had leaf particals caught in our hair and all over our clothes -And we didn't even care cause it was much too much fun to worry about how we looked.

Dena died several years ago at the age of 30. I feel like I'm in the movie "Stand by me" when I say, even though we hadn't spoken in many years, I know I'll always miss her.

But Life does go on…and on and on.

    ~To jumping in leaves~
