“Card Error”

July 13th, 2009 by Tammy Vitale

The photo card on which ALL my artomatic shots are stored is giving me this reading.  This makes me very sad.  Does anyone know how to fix it?

Yikes! Sometimes when I get card errors, I disconnect, wait a while, and reconnect, and then things somehow magically work again. I hope you can recover your files!

check in your camera manual. If you have stuff on disc, you probably should back it up elsewhere (DVD, external hard drive)

Try an external card reader. If you don't have one, you can find them at the local office supply store or online. They are fairly inexpensive. A card reader will make your card look like an external storage device, which you can hopefully open up and copy the pics somewhere else. Then you need to reformat your card. If the card can't be reformatted, then it's probably dead. Also do a google search for your specific camera model and card – somebody else had probably had the same problem. Finally, back up your pics – get an external hard drive, use dvds, whatever. Personally, I use smugmug.com – unlimited space for about $30.00 a year. If you're interested, send me email and I'll give you a discount code. I'm not affiliated with them – just a happy customer.
