I decided to show you what I’ve been doing lately in the studio.  Have had a great week of it designing zodiac symbol tiles that are the size of my usual word tiles, and today made earth/air/ fire/ water goddess tiles that size and corrected the Taurus zodiac tile that I spelled wrong.  Also finished up wiring some fired word tiles.

Here’s what a few days work looks like in the studio of Tammy Vitale of Tam’s Originals.

I’m never quite sure how these are going to fan out in the final piece – they never look the same as the page where I check everything.  But basically what you have here are pictures of:  the finished cast for the zodiac tiles; a close-up of the Gemini tile; the in-process casting of the goddess tiles and the corrected Taurus tile; a 2nd day rack of tiles drying (the first day they are farther apart.  The 2nd day I move them closer together so I have space to dry more tiles – always at a premium here in the studio, space); a batch of word tiles that are ready to go, with some waiting in the upper left to be stained; a close up a of the word tile: believe.

Hope you enjoy seeing some of the ways I work.  Have a great Saturday!

Thought for the day:  "We ache to touch intimately what is real, to find the marriage of meaning and matter in our lives and in the world.  We ache to feel and express the fire of being fully alive.  When we cultivate and refuse to separate those essential expressions of a human soul – our spirituality, sexuality, and creativity – we feed the fire of our being, we find that place where the soul and sensous meet, we unfold."  Oriah Mountain Dreamer, What We Ache For: Creativity and the Unfolding of Your Soul

  • Hi Tammy,

The zodiac tiles look great! I think that you are so right that there is room in the art market for smaller works that are affordable for people who love art but don't have the money for major purchases. Art should belong to everyone, not just those who can afford luxury.
