After our lovely picnic and walk along the Potomac on Sunday,DSw.the girls in the sand we drove home through lovely old Colonial Beach (also on the Potomac).  Once we hoped to buy a vacation house here, but we could never seem to make it through to the final.  So now we visit regularly.  It's about 2 hours from home, a nice ride, and I love the idea of this place with it's lovely Victorian houses, long shore line, public beach and memories for me of a big old hotel, closed abut owned by one of my Mom's friends – so we'd pack sheets and brooms and clean out a room and bed to stay with groups of neighborhood folks.  I remember not where it was abut keep hoping I'll see something that reminds me.  The hotel is long gone (that was the 60s and even though Colonial Beach is slow to change, changes indeed have happened).  Now there is a renaissance of sorts, with a regular art walk in Colonial Beach proper.  Like North Beach here in Calvert County, the lots are small and houses not directly on the beachfront tend to be small too.  But blue herons perch on pilings in the water, life is leisurely and if the restaurants aren't five star they still give you plenty to eat (we didn't stop as we had the Girls with us).

Then home with a quick stop to take pictures at Allen's Fresh, an enchanting marsh land in Charles County just off Route 301 (also called Crain Highway in that area).

And that's the end of our Sunday which was all anyone could ask for!

thought for the day:  O our mother the earth, O our father the sky,/Your children are we, and with tired backs/We bring you gifts that you love./Then weave for us a garment of brightness,/May the warp be the white light of morningm/May the weft be the red light of eveing,/May the fringes be the falling rain,/May the border be the standing rainbow/Thus weave for us a garment of brightness/That we may walk fittingly whre grass is green,/O our mother the earth, O our father the sky.  Tewa Pueblo Prayer Earth Prayers from around the World.

  • How beautiful! I love that house! I have a house "thing". My dream is to own one of these old beauties near a beach somewhere, with all its creakiness.
Yes, it looks like we both were taking in those last summer days :). Rain is forecast for us today, and in a few weeks we will be heading to the mountains for some SNOW!!

  • HI, Tammy! Lovely to hear about your picnic getaway…what a beautiful, tranquil place it looks. Your art work at the top with Picasso's quote moves me today, to be list-making and thinking ahead about some new creative pursuits and shake off some dust! Happy Days to you & yours ((HUGS))

  • I was e-yaking to another typepad person having problems with photo and she suggested this:
"in program menu…accessories…system tool…internet explorer with no add-ons. found in typepad's help database."
I have no idea what that means but I am sure that you do!
I want to come visit the victorian! I grew up in one; always have a fondness for them
oh – and when returning emails; the address needs to end in "gmail.com" not "gmail.net" all that was my fault for listing the email address incorrectly.
oh oh… and my mail has been bouncing for two days; comcast email server has been down for two days. Not sure if it affects you in your little corner of the world
